Racing Post Handicap Chase History

Racing Post Chase Richard Johnson with Farmer Jack in 2005The first Racing Post Handicap Chase event took place at Kempton Park Racecourse in 1988. The chase was won by the brilliant Rhyme ‘n Reason, a British racehorse that went on to win the Grand National in Aintree in the same year. Since then, the Racing Post Chase has been an annual event, taking place late each February.

In the following decades a number of other horses that claimed the Racing Post Chase crown went on to win major races.

The full list of Racing Post Chase winners includes horses that went on to claim the Grand National, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Irish Grand National, the Welsh National, the Whitbread Gold Cup, and the Cheltenham Festival.

Throughout Racing Post Chase history, the event has been sponsored by British racing and sports betting newspaper, the Racing Post.
